Wahoo the boss is here

Day one of fishing San Sal with Steve
The seas have calmed and the forecast is perfect for the next week. The boss flew in yesterday afternoon. He arrived at 2:30 and by 3 the lines were untied from the dock and we were headed offshore. We ran the short distance up to the Pinnacle. The Pinnacle is a sea mount that comes up from 1000 feet up to 250 feet off the north tip of San Sal. Within minutes of putting the lines in the water we had our first Mahi hooked. Most of the mahi were in the 15 to 20 lb range. We did get a few Wahoo bites. Wahoo are notorious for clipping your baits off right behind the hook. Their razor share teeth make quick work of any thing that moves in the water. Wahoo are also extremely fast. Once hooked, A wahoo can peel 3/4 of a spool of line off the reel in seconds. We had one real big one on that blistered the line off the real and then ran back at the boat so fast that we could not keep up with it. It finally came unbuttoned. We did manage to catch one about 45lbs. All in all it was a great start to the coming week. Three hours of fishing and a great box of fish.
Now, we have the next seven days to fish and I am still pretty full on our freezer space. So I made a call to the Riding Rock and Michelle said that she would take as much fish as I would give her. It seems that her church is having a fish fry this week. She even promised that the donation would put me in good graces with the big guy. Goodness know I need that.
I hope to have some great fish pics from todays fishing. and even a few videos. Tonight will be the last night we have internet till the the beginning of next when we get to the Turks and Caicos. But we should have some great stories and pictures from a few nights of anchoring out on islands that are 70 to 100 miles from any civilization.
I got up At 5 this morning and went for a walk on the beach. It was amazing. The water was sooooooo clear. There was barely a wave lapping at the shore line. I played cat and mouse with a few sand crabs that were scurrying to find what they could at the waters edge. I could not help but think about the crabs in Finding Nemo  Hey HEEEY HEY!!!!!!
Today, We plan to deploy mostly Marlin Lures as we fish. I plan to fish the entire way around the island today. The windward side of the island has some great places for fishing, But it is just always a bit rough over there. The slack winds should favor us doing well today.
After today, We are going to go south. We will probably spend to nights on the hook. ( anchored out) There are no Marinas south of here for 200 miles till we get to our next stop at Turks and Caicos.

Nice one

Mouth full of razors
The sun is just beginning to peak in the eastern sky... It has the entire sky glowing a bright orange. I would love to sit out here and write some more but the skeeters have taken to much blood. I need to rinse the sand from my feet and replenish my blood supply with coffee.
