Hurricane Issac ( Damn!)

Prepare for the worst Pray for the best.
When I left for St Thomas 6 months ago, I prepared for any and all weather situations. I have extra dock lines, Chafe gear, Extra fenders.... We saw no bad weather that made unnecessary the use of all of our extra gear. Now that I have traveled all the way to The Virgin islands and back, it looks like I will be making use of all that gear now. We are in Key West. Tropical Storm Issac has it sights set on the Florida Keys. The storm track at this time has Issac crossing the Florida Keys early monday morning as a Cat. 1 storm. Now some of you may be asking why would we stay here in Key West. Here is my reasoning.  If the storm did come to Key West, it would have to cross the mountains of Cuba which would tear apart some of the storms integrity. Thus we should only receive Cat 1 storm conditions. My other options are to run the boat up to Miami. If I did that, The storm could turn that direction and the conditions would be worse there. If I ran north up the west coast of Florida, I could be bringing the boat further up the coast where the storm could hit after it has time to strengthen further. As we have seen in the past, These storms seldom make sharp left hand turns. The turns to the left are normally slight. But turns to the right of it track can be abrupt. Case and point Hurricane Charlie. Charlie was to make the same track and was due to hit Tampa. Instead, it hooked right and pummeled Port Charlotte.
The rest of the sportfish boats that are here are of the same mind set that I am. It is best to stay here and sit tight and hunker down.
The A & B Marina where we are at in Key west, sits inside the Key West Bight. The Bight is a small harbor protected by a jetty. The marina has extra tall pilings and should provide all the holding strength we need.
Jimmy Buffet says it best.... Its hard to reason with Hurricane Season.
