Bertha prepare for the worst and pray for the best.

Ahhh … Hurricane season. We are sitting in American Yacht Harbor, St Thomas US virgin islands.
Fair weather day / the view from the boat window
Over the past 4 days, we have been monitoring a storm that has slowly been making its way across the atlantic ocean. As of this morning the depression was upgraded to Tropical storm status and named Bertha.it is approaching the lesser Antilles islands or about 450 miles south of us right now.
So how does one deal with the approach of a tropical storm when on a boat. The first thing one has to do is figure out where it is going.  Good luck with that.  The original track had it going east of us. if that was the case, we would have run to Puerto Rico for safe harbor but now the storm has taken a track that will take it just to the west and south  of us and onto Puerto Rico. We can't run towards the storm. So our best option is to hunker down right here. If the storm was going to be a major hurricane , then we would consider running to the Dominican or way over to St Martin. But with only tropical storm force winds. It looks like everyone is going to spider web the boats to the docks and ride it out.
Looking out of the window right now, it is severe clear. The winds are light and there is nary a cloud in the sky. The marina all morning has been bustling with boats. There has been a constant line at the fuel dock. The mooring ball field where all the sailboats are anchored out is about half empty now. The sail boats that are staying have been busy sinking extra anchors all morning. I just watched a dingy go by that was so loaded to the water line with cases of water, it looked like he may sink at any second. Some people over prepare.
I am not really worried to much about our situation here. The only reason we may have an issue is if the storm increases in intensity. at " This Point" they are not calling for it to get any stronger.
I will be posting a few picks on Facebook over the next 24 hours. Looks like we should begin receiving heavy rains and gusty winds by day break tomorrow.
