Road trip to Boca de Yuma great pics

With our time here in the Dominican Republic getting short, yesterday we decided to do one last road trip. Tyler and the boss and I grabbed a rental car and headed east across the south east peninsula to a less traveled part of the DR called Boca de Yuma. Boca means mouth. and the river there is called the Yuma River. Its a small town filled with small bars and restaurants. The river at one time was a haunt for pirates and then later whalers. But now it is just a trickle of tourism and commercial fishing that drives the town.
We took the New highway part of the way there, then the rest of the roads were marginal at best. The landscape of that area leading to the coast is nothing but miles and miles of sugar cane plantations.
Upon arriving in Boac De Yuma we went first to a large natural cave that is there. It was beautiful and large but not one of the best ever. But still worth going to see. After that we found a hourse on the side of the dirt road that I decided to put a Blue Heaven sticker on. This was not a good idea. The hourse wanted nothing to do with me so we went next to a natural swim hole. It is a giant alcove behind the rocks from the Caribbean. The waves and tide push water thru the rocks and created a big semi protected swimming hole.
We ate lunch right near the hole. It was a very nice place right on the rock cliffs and the food was as spectacular as the view.  After we were seated, The waitress brought out a plater with three large Yellow eye Snapper on it. It is custom here to present an assortment of fish for you to pick which fish you want to eat. They say that if the fish on the plater does not wink at you then it is a good one and it won't make you sick. If it winks, then you are in for a rough 24 hours after eating it. Our fish did NOT wink. It was fried whole and shared by the boss and I. I highly recommend the    It was clean and modern.
Beyond that we just looked at the river and drove back home. It was a quick and easy trip. and I suggest it to anyone.
The fishing has been the same here. Most days we are getting 1-3 shots at Blue marlin. We did have one day where we only saw a flying fish but We will go back at it tomorrow to redeem ourselves.
