How not to Christen a boat

Nice Mutton Snapper
The past few days have been great. We have been fishing daily. One day we found an old tree branch floating offshore and caught a mess of wahoo and doado. We have also catching snappers on the reef edge. We tried real hard for the bosses first billfish on this boat but it just did not happen.
Key West in our wake as we head off shore
Last night we decided to Christen the boat. This is tradition. The owner of the boat whacks a bottle of Champagne on the rail of the boat and says the name of the boat as he/ she does so. We thought what a great idea. We placed a towel on the transom of the boat and even placed a sock around the champagne bottle to limit glass flying or damage to the boat. The boss reared back and whacked the bottle on the transom and the bottle bounced right off. It went flying out of his hand and in to the water. Dear lord we all laughed so hard.
Our plan is to leave Key West tomorrow and make for home. We will fish a few old wrecks along the way but will try to beat the weather that is suppose to push into the Tampa area late tomorrow.
As always, I seem to run into old freinds in Key west. I saw the crews of quite a few crews from boats. Many of them were stopping here to fuel on the way to Mexico. Some were just here for a few days. One boat had a bunch of people running a thing called a Ragnar. its a relay race from Miami to here. It was nice to hang with them. There are a few other friends of mine running the race but I never got to see them.

Plenty Wahoo and Dorado

Chilling on the dock at A& B
I have not spent much time in Key West in January in the past but wow the weather is great. Sitting on the dock listening to the music of the Schooner wharf pouring across the harbor and enjoying the night sky with its stars is tough to put into words.
