St Thomas and St John
View of the harbor at St John
Arrived St Thomas last week. There are a few boats here now but more are on the way. Some are still holding out on the bite in Cap Cana DR and some are traveling this way. We are docked at American Yacht Harbor in an area called Red hook on the east end of the island. Red Hook is a small bay that has a few marinas and the ferry docks that shuttle folks to the neighboring islands.
St Thomas is part of the US and is refered to as the USVI or Unites States Virgin Islands. No I have not seen any Virgins yet... But then I have not been looking. Just to the east with in eye shot is the BVI's or British Virgin Islands.
Sunset looking back towards St Thomas from Asolare on St John.
Red hook is somewhat of a hub of activity. Though not actually a town, It boasts lots of restaurants, shops and bars. It is nice to have some activitiy around the marina after being in Casa De Campo for a few months. The Island time pub is my favorite place here. It over looks the marina. The bartenders up there are great. Chelsa (aka Salsa) and Miss Bliss in particular have taken very good care to make sure we feel welcome. A few nights ago, Chelsa invited me to ride along on a trip to St John. There was a group of locals going to a restaurant there. We took the Ferry over to St John. ( oh by the way.... Never add an S to St John. I refered to the island as St JohnS and was scolded. Appearently it is a true sign of being a tourist to add the S. I am soooo ashamed ) The event was a Tequila tasting and five course dinner. I am not much of a tequila guy, but much of the food was prepared using different types of tequila and the tequila that I did have was very good. The Chef came out between each course and described our courses. The evening was very classy and well done. The food was great and Asolare is a great restaurant. A big thanks to Chelsa for letting me tag along and making me feel welcome.
Kyle flew back to the states for this weekend. So I have been home alone on the boat for a few days. Been keeping myself busy with a few small projects and brining in techs for some of the bigger stuff on the boat.
None of the boats here are fishing right now. But everyone should start fishing next week as we get closer to the moon and the July Open Marlin tournament.
