Big Bug

Big ole honkin bug

50 lb wahoo and some of our Yellow eye snappers
Life is 10 percent circumstance and 90 percent how you let it effect you. Being down island and waiting on the boss to fly in can be really boring.  So we make the best of the time, by doing projects on the boat and getting out and seeing the sights. Yesterday was one of those days. In the morning Kyle, Bucky, Big Dog and I did another road trip to see if we could find some lobster and snorkel some reefs. We went to the north end of the island where the old coast guard station was at one time. The water was gin clear and the reef was outstanding. We did find lots of small spanish lobsters, But they were all to small. Then on one coral head, I dove down and saw a small cave. As i went back to the surface, I saw what looked like an antenea waving around. I dove back down and looked closer. It was a real nice lobster. I shot it with the Hawaiian sling. We did not see any more big bugs but the one I got would feed three of us for sure.
After snorkeling, We got back to the boat and decided to idle out and try one more time to do some exploatory deep dropping. We deployed both deep drop reels and found a few spots in 450 to 700 feet of water where we caught Yellow eye snapper, Button  snapper,  Silk snapper and black snapper. We did have what we think was a big Warsaw grouper hooked but sharks ate it half way up. Big dog was the high liner. He seemed to have the touch when it came to the snappers.  After catching about 20 snappers, We trolled our way back and caught another 50 pound wahoo. We did finally hook a Yellow fin tuna, But once again the sharks got it. We got the head back. Upon close inspection of the mutilated Tuna head, We found the teeth marks in the head to be giant. The gashes were an inch across on some spots. ( Big shark)
Now thats a fine tail

Sunset sushi
After cleaning the boat, We all stood around the dock at sunset and had some great tuna sushi complete with wasabe and soy sauce. Then we feasted on Beans and rice with venison sausage and lobster tail.
Today will not be as fun. We played all day yesterday. Today is going to be filled with lots and lots of little projects.
We may move the boat to the far end of the marina today. That end of the marina has less surge. The surge will get bad tonight. The surge happens when the wind and waves are out of the north at this marina. The marina entrance faces straight north. each wave that breaks at the marina entrance, pushes a surge of water into the marina. It makes the boats in their slips pull and tug really hard at their lines as the water surges in and then recedes. The surge will last for the next 24 hours. Not much sleep tonight.

I think I posted this sunset pic before, But It is worth posting again. It pretty much says it all. Pic was taken sitting on the beach by the boat at San Salvador. Great place to just sit and think.... With an adult beverage oh course.
