The Blue Heaven has been sitting for a few months now. She has had quite a bit of repairs and refit. Much of the interior has been redone, Pumps relaced, electronics upgraded and lots of polishing has been done. Kyle and I have spent the last weeks preparing and planning for any and all things that may arise in the months to come.
Our trip will begin with a week or so in the Keys. We will fish for sailfish and snapper and maybe even try for swordfish if the weather cooperates. Around the 14th of March we will depart Miami and begin working our way southward down island through the Bahamas. Along the way we will try to save fuel by trolling for Wahoo. The price of fuel is going up and should go up incrimentally as we bounce our way icland to island southward. Another thing we will be dealing with is weather. The month of March brings gusty 25kt + winds for days on end to the Bahamas. It tends to either be very windy or very calm. Our plan is to slowly work our way down island as far as San Salvadore where the boss will join us. We will fish along the way for tuna and Wahoo. There is another boat that will be traveling the entire trip with us. The Ruckus with a friend of mine Kenny Hyatt will make for great company along the way. From San salvador, we will fish our way to the Turks and Caicos before jumping across to the Dominican Republic. In the DR we will fish at a few different places for white and Blue Marlin. From the DR we plan to make our way to St Thomas and fish for Blue Marlin for a while before making the reverse trip back stateside.
The boat is packed with provisions and gear in every compartment and hole. The prep for a trip of this magnitude is big. We have had to plan for all the different types of fishing we will be doing as well as spare parts and supplies. The food supply is not as tough as years gone by but I still try to bring as much of the meats I will need as possible.
Kyle and I are very excited about the trip. There is an old poem about sailors that evades me. But, It says something to the effect of "When a sailor is home he only thinks about being at sea. When he is at sea, he only thinks about his return". The poem says it much more eloquently. But you get the point. There will be many great stories and adventures ahead of us. There will be new stories and charchters along the way that should make for great blogs. I will try to keep you all updated of our adventures and the progress of our trip.
In less than a week we will have the wind in our face and salt on our skin and will be in search of anything that will bite.
