Towing the Blue Too before it got rough |
The Blue Heaven is in Key West We Departed Friday morning at 5 am from PYCC in St Pete. The Weather was ok for the first 150 miles. But as is usual the last 50 miles were a little squirley. We were towing our tender and we had to slow down more and more the closer we got to Key West. But we made it here with no issues. We did have an electrical issue on the Blue Heaven. It turns out I had a bad 8-D Battery. It was a simple fix by just changing out the battery. Friday night we went out and ate some dinner and took the obligatory walk down Duval Street. The Fantasy Fest partiers were starting to show up. There were a few costumes and a little Painting.
Saturday we spent the day cleaning waxing and changing out the bad battery. Kyle and one of the other mates went out in search of bait for the coming week. They did find lots of it along the south side of Key West. We will need lots of the little 2 inch Pilchards to fish for Yellow tail Snappers this week. Key West Is slowly coming to life. The last few weeks have been very slow for tourism. But as the town ramps up to Fantasy Fest the crowds will grow exponentially each day. Last night I walked into town and found the crowds were twice as large as the night before. The freaks have begun to show up as well. There were plenty of women walking around with nothing but body paint on their chests and the costumes were quite funny as well. I saw a couple nuns that kept mooning everyone that passed by and I saw four guys that were dead ringers for Johnny Depp and Pirate Jack Sparrow. They were great. There was another guy on a balcony with a giant fishing pole that had a cartoonishly large hook on it. He would dangle it into the crowds below and he caught what he was looking for. He had a sign next to him asking for undergarments. The fishing was great.
Today KYle is running the buffer on the Brow of the boat and After he finishes, we are taking the crew from another boat with us and were going to go catch some lobsters. The water temp has dropped by 10 degrees since we were here this summer. There WILL be shrinkage!!!!
