Great video of a blue marlin release and Samana Santos

This last week was lots of fun. Over the past week, the marina filled quickly with boats from the US Puerto Rico and all over. There were more big yachts here than I have seen here before. The reason for all the boats was this is that this last week was Samana Santos. Easter week. Here in the Dominican Republic as in many central american countries, Samana Santos is as big a week as Christmas. It is a time for families to get together and party and vacation.  Casa de Campo was filled with boats, Residents and vacationers. It seemed there were people where ever you looked.
Each night of the week held a different event. From cocktail parties to DJ's cranking out music to A big Polo match and culminating with a giant concert Saturday night.  Casa De Campo really was fun.  There were a few to many adult beverages but good times were had by all.
We fished a few days out of the last week. The weather was real nice one of the days. But it turned crappy by the end of the week. We had quite a few shots at Marlin. One fish that stands out was a big blue marlin that came crashing into our spread. It crushed a lure and immediately took to the air. It does not matter how many times you see a blue marlin jump while hooked , its just a thrill. This fish went air born blowing holes in the water as it jumped. We never got a picture of it but let me try to describe it. The fish was large for Casa De Campo maybe 300 or 350 lbs. ( most of the fish here are smaller). The seas were flat calm and azure  blue. When it launched itself from the water it was all lit up. Its fins flashed a brilliant turquoise blue and stripes of dark blue radiated down from it dark blue back. Water sprayed from its shakes in the air. On a few of its jumps it seemed to just hang there suspended in air. As it Jumped, it headed for the boat faster than the angler could possibly reel the slacked line. I jammed the throttles forward to try to help but it continued to jump towards the boat. On the last majestic jump it threw the hook. There was not a disappointed person on the boat. Sure we had not caught the fish, but the show that fish put on was enough to satisfy us all.
Driving here is a trip. Stop signs and stop lights and lines on the road are merely suggestions. Cars fly around you as you slow to look both directions at intersections. Busses pass you in the opposite lane with on coming traffic. Even a traffic cop at an intersection does not seem to slow some of these idiots. Then you have to deal with the motorcycles. Some of them with three or four ridersThey use now ordinary road rules. They dash in and out of traffic and seem to think they are bullet proof. Then there are the federallies at the road side check points. After picking up the boss from the airport in Santo Domingo, We made our way back to Casa de Campo. As I cleared one intersection, we looked ahead and saw guy with a shot gun  waving us to pull over by a police truck. The boss told me to just keep going. But it was just a tad intimidating so I stopped. The guy walked over and leaned in and was very friendly. He told the boss that he liked his RayBans. I asked him in spanglish whats up?. He asked if we had our paper work. I reached for the glove box.to get the rental car papers. When I did so he said "NO NO NO!!! I am your friend" with a big cheesy smile. He then asked if we had a little money for his family. The asshole was just wanting money. The  boss pulled out 10 bucks and the guy waved us on. Oh well its just the cost of doing business here in the DR.
The Golf courses here are incredible. Teeth of the Dog is one of the courses that is located here in CDC. It is as pretty a course as you will find anywhere in the world. Tyler and Mike Amo played last week. I think this wednesday a bunch of boat crews are going to assault the course.
The boss left us yesterday. We are going to get some waxing done and maybe a round of golf this week. We tried like hell to get him to stay. Its just more fun with him here.
