We departed Casa De Campo yesterday. The bite there is winding down and we have other places to see and things to do.
The ride from CDC to Cap Cana was pretty shitty. We fished nearly the entire way and never got a single bite. The white marlin offshore of Cap Cana are still biting pretty good. We plan to spend the day here and do a little fishing before we make the Mona Passage crossing.
Ahhh the Mona Passage. If the wind is more than 10 kts, I would rather wear a dress to a biker bar than make that crossing. The area between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic is notorious for being a rough brutal area of water. It is only about 55 miles across, But the currents that feed to the Atlantic from the Caribbean always seem to counter the wind. Tomorrow we will make that crossing on our way to San Juan. We hope to fish along the way.
Leaving CDC left me with different feelings. While I liked the layed bad feeling of CDC and the fishing there, I was ready to get moving and go somewhere new. Nearly all the boats in CDC will be leaving by this weekend.
Cap Cana is still full of sportfish boats. Many of them will fish here thru the summer. Some of them will be following the same course as us and head to St Thomas.
It is just really nice to be traveling again and looking forward to new adventures.
